Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Paddock served with distinction in the Confederate Army and then attended law school in Mississippi. He moved to Fort Worth in 1872 to practice law. Within a short time his local resume became quite impressive”

  • Editor of The Fort Worth Democrat (1873-1881)
  • President of The Fort Worth and Rio Grande Railway Company (1885-1889)
  • Founder & Executive Secretary of the Fort Worth Board of Trade (1901-1909)
  • President of The Texas Spring Palace (1889-1890)
  • Fort Worth Mayor (1892-1900)
  • Tarrant County Representative in Texas Legislature (1881-1883, 1913-1915)
  • Instrumental in establishing city’s first fire department, water works & school system
  • Edited four books on the history of Northwest Texas and Fort Worth
  • 1914 Paddock Viaduct named in his honor
